President University Holds Guest Lecture with Chief of Judicial Commission Prof. Amzulian Rifai

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, President University (Presuniv) held a guest lecture on the theme “Legal and Judicial Development Through Enforcement of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Judges (KEPPH).” The lecture, held at the Charles Himawan Auditorium, 5th Floor of Building A, Presuniv Campus at Jababeka Education Park, Jababeka City, Cikarang, and featured Prof. Amzulian Rifai, SH, LL.M., Ph.D., Chief of the Judicial Commission, as the speaker.

In his opening remarks, Presuniv Rector Handa S. Abidin, SH, LL.M., Ph.D., expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity for students to interact directly with the Chief of the Judicial Commission. He stated, “Being able to attend a guest lecture directly with the Chief of the Judicial Commission is an extraordinary opportunity. Make the most of this opportunity,” Handa advised the students.

In his lecture, Prof. Amzulian emphasized the importance of field practice in legal education. He shared his experiences while in Australia and highlighted the advantages of the legal system in other countries, particularly regarding public trust in law and the judiciary. He said, “One of the challenges faced by the judicial system in Indonesia is the low level of public trust in the law.” While in Australia, Prof. Amzulian was trained to understand the ins and outs of legal apparatus. “And, public trust in the law and judiciary in Australia is very high. There, legal authorities truly give their best,” remarked Prof. Amzulian.

Prof. Amzulian also observed a change in the mentality of law students over the past decade. He noted that many students choose law as a major because they see the potential for high earnings. “Not because of a deeper motivation to uphold justice,” emphasized.   On Friday, October 25, 2024, President University (Presuniv) held a meeting with various alumni who are currently working in embassies, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
