PDC, President University, Held Webinar on Higher Education Development Strategy with Prof. Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro
On Tuesday, 15th October 2024, the President Development Center (PDC), a business unit of President University (Presuniv) specializing in training and business consultancy, hosted a webinar on the topic of “Higher Education Development Strategy.” The webinar was held via Zoom, and featured Prof. Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, former Chairman of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI) from 2018-2023, as the keynote speaker. The event was moderated by George Iwan Marantika, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Private University Association (APTISI) for Foreign Relations.
DR. SD Darmono, Founder of Presuniv and President Director of PT Jababeka Tbk., opened the webinar by highlighting the need for continuous development in Indonesian higher education, particularly in comparison to international standards. “We need to attract more international students to Indonesian universities to enhance the competitiveness of local students and prepare them to compete globally,” Darmono said.
In his presentation, Prof. Satryo noted that while Indonesia’s education level is above the global average, the country’s Human Capital Index is only 54%. “This is relatively low, with Indonesia ranking 96th out of 175 countries,” he explained. To become a developed nation, Satryo emphasized, Indonesia needs not only a large workforce but also highly skilled human capital. “Therefore, we need to create a more effective education system to produce a workforce that meets market demands,” he concluded.
