Communication Study Program, President University, Held Guest Lecture on Crisis Communication

On Monday, 14 October 2024, the Communication Study Program of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education, President University (Presuniv), hosted a guest lecture titled Communication Role in Business Crisis. The lecture was held at the Fabrication Laboratory (Fablab), President University Convention Center (PUCC), Jl. H. Usmar Ismail, Kota Jababeka, Cikarang, featured Muhamad Heikal, SI, MPC, Special Communication, and Media Staff for the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The session was moderated by M. Raudy Gathmyr, S.Sos., M.Si., Head of the Communication Study Program.

In his opening remarks, Handa S. Abidin, SH, LL.M., Ph.D., Rector of President University, emphasized the importance of communication skills for all students and academic staff attending the lecture. “If we have strong communication skills in times of crisis, we will be indispensable. Anywhere,” he stated.

Dr. Mohammad Syafi’i Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education, added, “Communication is a powerful and meaningful tool. Through communication, we can exchange ideas and knowledge.” However, Syafi’i pointed out that communication can be even more crucial in crisis management. “We can use communication to make crisis management more effective,” he explained.

During his lecture, Heikal elaborated on the critical role of communication, especially during challenging times such as a crisis. “In a crisis, we need to understand the nature of the situation, and to do so, we require good communication,” said Heikal. He added that dialogue between companies and the public during a crisis can help mitigate any negative impact.

Although Heikal acknowledged that opportunities might arise from a crisis, he argued that crises should ideally be avoided. “A crisis can be prevented. When we detect the early signs of a potential crisis, the management team can take steps to minimize or even eliminate it before it escalates,” Heikal concluded. (Graciella V, PR Team. President University Holds Meeting with Alumni Working in Embassies, International Organizations, and NGOs

  On Friday, October 25, 2024, President University (Presuniv) held a meeting with various alumni who are currently working in embassies, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The meeting was held at Coffee Bean in Kuningan City and was attended by Presuniv Rector Handa S. Abidin, SH, LL.M., Ph.D., Dr. Dra.   On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, President University (Presuniv) welcomed the Information Systems Study Program team from Hasanuddin University, Makassar, South Sulawesi, for a benchmarking visit regarding the implementation of the education system.
