On Friday, October 11, 2024, Dr. M. Samsuri, S.Pd., MT, IPU, conducted a socialization session on the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation (Permendikbudristek) No. 44 of 2024 regarding the Profession, Career, and Income of Lecturers. The event took place at the Charles Himawan Auditorium, 5th floor of Building A, President University Campus at Jababeka Education Park, Kota Jababeka, Cikarang. Present at the event were President University Rector Handa S. Abidin, SH, LL.M., Ph.D., members of the rectorate, Dr. Drs. Chandra Setiawan, MM, Ph.D., a lecturer who also serves as the Supervisory Board of the President University Education Foundation, as well as several lecturers and staff.
In his presentation, Samsuri explained the current situation and the impact of the newly issued regulation. He said, “The introduction of this new regulation clarifies the regulations regarding the profession of lecturers. It also simplifies the rules on the appointment, transfer, and certification of lecturers.” Furthermore, he emphasized that the new Permendikbudristek provides greater protection for the labor rights of lecturers.
Several changes were introduced, including the lecturer status. “Previously, we had NIDN, NIDK, and NUP lecturers. Now, there are only two categories: permanent lecturers and non-permanent lecturers,” Samsuri explained. NIDN stands for Nomor Induk Dosen Nasional (National Lecturer Identification Number), NIDK stands for Nomor Induk Dosen Khusus (Special Lecturer Identification Number), and NUP refers to Nomor Urut Pendidik (Educator Registration Number). According to Samsuri, “The differences between NIDN, NIDK, and NUP were not very clear, this is now simplified by this regulation.”
Samsuri also addressed other topics covered in the regulation, including academic rank levels, the number of honorary professors, lecturer appointments, the ease of lecturer transfers and certification, and various new rules that enhance the autonomy of universities, particularly concerning lecturers’ career paths. “By December 2024, universities are expected to study this new regulation. The regulation will officially come into effect in July 2025,” Samsuri concluded. (JB Susetiyo, PR Team. Photo: Ni Luh Pinkan).
